Midnight Meowth Erupts with “Apple Cat Apple Bee”, Spitting Fire at Abusers in PowerAfter dropping three singles in 2025 (「バカヤロー」“BAKAYARO!,” “Past,” and 「強くあれ」“Tsuyoku Are”), Malang’s weaboo hardcore unit Midnight Meowth crank their productivity into overdrive with their latest single, “Apple Cat Apple Bee.” The band’s solid lineup features Nisa (vocals), Welly (guitar), Ocin (guitar), Obed (bass), and Biting (drums).

The title “Apple Cat Apple Bee” was chosen as a semiotic punch, born from social unrest and inspired by artwork created in times of crisis. Obed then penned lyrics that slash at injustice and the brutality of those in power, wrapping them in Midnight Meowth’s signature fusion of Japanese and English. “Who’s still acting reckless, manipulative, and heartless? Funny how there are so many so-called ‘bad apples,’ SUS!” says Welly.

Musically, the track hits with thick 2010s hardcore vibes, nodding to bands like Comeback Kid, Your Demise, Ignite, and Bane. Melodic riffs, anime-tinged basslines, and raw, high-energy arrangements turn “Apple Cat Apple Bee” into an anthem built for crowd chants and chaotic mosh pits. “We hope everyone screams ‘Apple Cat~, Apple Bee~’ with us in the sing-along part,” adds Nisa.

Though distance between members led to a hiatus since 2021, 2025 has become Midnight Meowth’s most prolific year yet. With their unique weaboo hardcore identity, the band keeps fusing raw social critique with Japanese pop culture. “It’s important, because it keeps our music fresh. Even our drummer, who didn’t know a thing about weaboo culture, got pulled in by the distortion-fueled wibu spirit, haha!” laughs Obed.

The recording process was pure Midnight Meowth chaos, with pizza crusts at vocal takes, laughter spilling between sessions, and raw energy shaping every layer. Looking ahead, “Apple Cat Apple Bee” will serve as the bridge toward their first full-length album, alongside a planned music video that is “super Japanese, but with a local twist.”

With “Apple Cat Apple Bee,” Midnight Meowth prove that social critique does not have to kill the fun. It is a call to shout louder, stand fearless, and keep hardcore’s collective fire alive.
