Inheritors Defy Fate with Dark & Brutal Thrash on “Cheating Death”

[INDONESIA] Indonesian thrash metal unit Inheritors continue their post-hiatus resurgence into 2026 with a new single, “Cheating Death.” Born from personal brushes with mortality among its members and a shared obsession with horror and thriller narratives such as Final Destination, the track confronts the dangerous illusion that death can be outsmarted. The message is clear: fate always finds a way.

“Cheating Death” represents Inheritors at their darkest and most ferocious. Fast, razor-edged thrash riffs infused with late-’80s old school proto-death thrash metal energy collide with tighter songwriting, more vicious grooves, and punishing breakdowns, topped with aggressive guitar solos. Influences ranging from Kill ’Em All-era Metallica to Kreator’s Pleasure to Kill are evident, with early Sepultura acting as a crucial thread, yet the band avoids slipping into mere retro worship.

The single also marks the official debut of Galih as Inheritors’ new guitarist, expanding the band into a dual-guitar formation for the first time. Coming from a non-thrash background, Galih brings a more exploratory approach to riffing and lead work, adding new dimensions without diluting the band’s bleak and hostile identity. His presence makes the sound denser, heavier, and more open to broader sonic possibilities.

“Cheating Death” is part of a staggered single-release strategy leading toward Inheritors’ long-awaited debut full-length album. The record is envisioned as a collage of thrash metal’s evolution, spanning from the raw aggression of the 1980s through the darker, heavier turns of the 2000s, with each song carrying its own distinct character. After an eight-year hiatus, Inheritors now frame music as catharsis, a channel for negative energy, and a legacy worth preserving.

Designed to ignite mosh pits from the opening seconds to the final blow, “Cheating Death” stands as a clear statement that Inheritors are far from finished. They may not be able to cheat fate, but they can challenge it with speed, distortion, and uncompromising darkness.

About Inheritors

Formed in October 2014, Inheritors carved their name into Malang’s metal circuit with their debut anthemic single, “Chainsaw Massacre”, a relentless statement of intent released in February 2015. Back then, their sound was a lethal cocktail of Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer, classic thrash and heavy metal fused with horror-inspired lyrics, drawing from cult favorites like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Walking Dead, and Killer Klowns From Outer Space. Even their name was lifted from a character in a sci-fi flick.

But after an 8-year hiatus, Inheritors are back. Meaner, heavier, and sharper than ever. This isn’t just a revival; it’s a rebirth. Their sound now bleeds with hardcore-infused riffs and a razor-sharp focus on real-world chaos, no more fictional nightmares, just the raw brutality of modern society. The mosh pits are about to get even nastier.
